Bayport Financial Services provides responsible unsecured credit to clients in several African countries.  We provide national financial services in South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda and Ghana.  Because of encouraging growth, we have been able to establish 235 branches in total and now our national financial services are available to even more people in these countries.  In addition, we have several mobile units to serve people in the countryside.

Africa is a relatively immature financial market and Bayport has developed a unique business plan to mitigate the risks involved in such a market.  We regarded these risks as challenges, not obstacles, and this has meant that we are still the only large company to have successfully established national access to unsecured credit in the countries where we are active.  Of course, to achieve this, we had to design unique financial products as well, which address the specific needs of the people we serve. 

In addition, we counsel prospective lenders before granting a loan, so that the lender is fully informed of the terms of the contract and does not become bogged down with unaffordable debt.  This is a key factor of our responsible lending practices and has been one of the main reasons why our credit quality is still market leading, despite detractors’ initial doubts of our potential success in Africa.  Africa is a vast, untapped market and we have made significant inroads into empowering people here to acquire the money to pursue economic opportunities, develop themselves and take charge of their futures.
