Bayport Is A Financial Institution Providing Unsecured Credit

Bayport Financial Services is a financial institution that provides unsecured credit in Africa.  We believe that a financial institution should also be a responsible member of society; therefore, we pride ourselves on our responsible lending practices, the results of which has been born out in practice with our impressive credit quality record in what is essentially a relatively immature financial market.

In keeping with Bayport’s philosophy of contributing to the country and community, we are actively involved in many communities in all the countries where we are active.  In Ghana, we had started a Scholarship Award Scheme in 2007 that aims to empower students with excellent academic results who cannot financially afford it to further their academic careers.  In Tanzania, Bayport has renovated the Mbinga District union offices of the Tanzanian Teachers’ Union as well as renovating and substantially upgrading the facilities of the Airport Primary School in Kigoma.  In terms of healthcare, we have provided support to landslide victims in Uganda, among other projects.  In Zambia, we have been involved in a hospital upgrade programme.

It is clear that Bayport is not just a financial institution.  We realise that we have to function as part of an entire community and play our role in society responsibly.  Therefore, we also have counselling programmes for prospective lenders where we take into account local attitudes towards debt while ensuring that the lender understands what his loan is all about and what it will cost him or her.
