When Bayport Financial Services started doing business in Africa almost a decade ago, the focus was on providing responsible unsecured credit where people never had access to it before.  In the meantime, Bayport has grown and today it provides a range of services, which include insurance, salary advances and cellular phone contracts.  Although the insurance and many of the other services are new, our approach is not – we still provide financial services in Africa to meet Africans’ needs.

Africans were traditionally stuck in a difficult situation when it came to financial services.  There were banks and there were loan sharks, with nobody to fill the gap and afford the consumer the protection, service and responsible lending practices of a large company that operates according to sound business principles.  It was simple: if you could not get a bank loan, you had only the loan sharks as your last resort.  Bayport has come to fill that gap and provide the African people in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa an alternative.
