Bayport Financial Services Botswana started trading in May 2010 on the strength of a partnership between Bayport, the Botswana government, parastatal organisations and trade unions. Today the operation’s 14 branches serve more than 14 000 customers. It employs almost 100 people permanently, and has a sales force of over 200 agents. In 2015, Bayport Botswana became the first Bayport operation to attain international recognition for its client protection policies and practices when it received Client Protection Certification from the Smart Campaign (with re-certification in 2018). It was the first credit provider in Africa and the first payroll lender in the world to accomplish this feat.
